Bad Bunny and The Weeknd gave Stockholm’s economy a major boost this summer, with their combined five concerts generating SEK 1.18 billion (US$118M) in direct tourism-related spending.

Bad Bunny played two shows in July, followed by three from The Weeknd in August. Together, the concerts brought around 195,000 people to Stockholm.

The spending reached beyond venues, with visitors booking hotel rooms, eating at restaurants and cafés, shopping and using local transport. Visitors spent an average of just over SEK 2,000 per day (US$200).

Stockholm’s international pull was clear too. Half of Bad Bunny’s concertgoers travelled from abroad – the highest international share recorded by the Experience Institute for a music event in the city. His fans came from 135 countries, while The Weeknd’s audiences travelled from 105.

For nine out of ten visitors, the concerts were the main reason for their trip. Many also made more than a night of it: overnight visitors stayed for an average of 3.6 days around Bad Bunny’s shows and 2.9 days around The Weeknd’s.

Jon Bergsjö, CEO of Live Nation Sweden, said:

“The numbers speak for themselves. These figures clearly demonstrate the impact that just five concerts can have on the economy. It is also worth remembering that during the summer we promoted more than 60 concerts and sold more than 300,000 tickets in Stockholm alone.”

Caroline Strand, Deputy CEO of Stockholm Business Region, said:

“World-class events are an important driver of growth for Stockholm, impacting both the local economy and the city’s international competitiveness. Visitors spent nearly SEK 1.2 billion in connection with the five concerts on hotels, restaurants, shopping and other local spending. The fact that close to 200,000 visitors from more than 100 countries chose Stockholm during these five concert nights also creates a sense of pride among residents and demonstrates that Stockholm is an attractive destination for investors, visitors and talent. It further strengthens our position as one of the world’s leading event cities.”

The analysis was commissioned by Live Nation, Stockholm Business Region and Stockholm Live. It measures direct visitor spending and does not include indirect economic effects.
